Why the Cord That Came With Your EV Is Not Enough

Every EV comes with a Level 1 “convenience cord” that plugs into a standard wall outlet. At 120V, it adds 3 to 5 miles of range per hour. If you drive 50 miles a day, recovering that takes 10 to 17 hours — assuming you never need more than overnight.

A professionally installed Level 2 home charger changes the math entirely. Running at 240V — the same as a clothes dryer — it delivers 25 to 40 miles per hour. Plug in after work, wake up fully charged. For most EV owners, a home charger installation is the single most impactful upgrade they make.

GOEV Colorado handles everything: site assessment, electrical permit, installation, inspection, and rebate paperwork — in a single visit for most Denver homes. After Colorado utility rebates and the federal 30C tax credit, most standard installs cost $200 to $700 out of pocket. Complex jobs with long wire runs, finished wall routing, or panel upgrades vary significantly — we give you an exact written price before any work begins.

What Denver Homeowners Say

Real Reviews from Real Customers

GOEV made the whole process incredibly easy. They came out the next day, pulled the permit themselves, and had my Tesla Wall Connector installed in about three hours. The wiring is clean, the work is solid, and they helped me file for the Xcel rebate before they even left. Best home upgrade I’ve done.

“I was nervous about the whole process but GOEV walked me through everything from start to finish. They assessed our panel, gave us a flat-rate quote on the spot, and installed our Level 2 charger the following week. No surprise charges, exactly what they quoted. We wake up to a full charge every morning now.”

“Had GOEV install a Level 2 charger for our Rivian. They knew exactly what was needed, handled the city permit, and finished the job in one afternoon. Very professional, very clean install. They also pointed out we qualified for the Xcel rebate — saved us $500 we didn’t even know about. Highly recommend.”

Common Questions

Home EV Charger Installation FAQs

Cost

How much does home EV charger installation cost in Colorado?

It genuinely varies. A simple install close to the panel might run $300 to $700 in labor. A complex job with long wire runs, conduit through finished walls, or a detached garage can reach $2,000 to $4,000+. If your home needs a panel upgrade first, add another $1,500 to $4,500. After the federal 30C credit (up to $1,000) and Xcel rebate (up to $500), most standard installs cost $200 to $700 out of pocket. We give you a locked written price before touching anything — call (720) 722-8305.

Breaker

What size breaker do I need for a Level 2 charger?

NEC requires a 25% safety buffer between the charger amperage and the breaker size. A 32A charger needs a 40A breaker, a 40A charger needs 50A, and a 48A charger needs a 60A breaker. We calculate the correct size during your free site assessment and include it in the quote — you don’t need to figure this out yourself.

Panel

Do I need a panel upgrade before installing an EV charger?

Not always — most homes built after 1990 with a 200A panel are fine. Older homes with 100A panels or panels that are already near capacity may need an upgrade first. We assess your panel during the free site evaluation and will never recommend an upgrade that isn’t genuinely necessary.

Location

Can I install an EV charger outdoors or in a detached garage?

Yes to both. Outdoor installs use NEMA 4-rated weatherproof hardware — Colorado winters are not a problem with the right equipment. Detached garages require underground conduit, which adds cost depending on distance, but it’s one of our most common job types. We’ll scope it completely before you commit.

Permit

Who pulls the permit and handles the inspection?

We do — completely. We file with your local municipality, pay the permit fee (included in your quote), schedule the inspection, and attend it. Never let anyone install a Level 2 charger without a permit — it can void your homeowner’s insurance and create serious complications when selling your home.

Timeline

How quickly can GOEV get my home charger installed?

We give same-day quotes and schedule most Denver-area installs within 1 to 3 business days. The installation itself takes 2 to 4 hours for most standard residential jobs. Call (720) 722-8305 — most homeowners are charging at home within a week of their first call.

Same-day quotes. Installs typically within 3 days. Permits, rebates, and a 5-year workmanship warranty included. Most Denver homeowners spend $200 to $700 after rebates on a standard install.
